This Thursday, November 17, marks the American Cancer Society's 29th annual Great American Smokeout. In recognition of that effort, AHRQ is dedicating this week's Healthcare 411 to the topic of smoking cessation.

  • AHRQ News and Numbers reveals that large percentages of U.S. adults with potentially life-threatening chronic diseases continue to smoke.
  • We'll look at AHRQ research about smoking cessation and discuss what products are out there to help smokers quit.
  • A guide from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services helps nurses encourage patients to quit smoking.
  • And we'll talk with a nurse who successfully quit smoking and is still tobacco-free.
