Radiocast: Staying Healthy at 50+

Rand: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. As we age, what’s the best way to stay healthy? Two new checklists from AHRQ offer helpful reminders. AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy:

Dr. Clancy: For both men and women over 50, the daily steps to good health are ones we’ve probably all heard before: eat right, exercise and don’t smoke. But the checklists, one for men and one for women, tell us about other steps we need to take such as getting certain health screenings or taking certain preventative medicines because they’ve really been proven to improve health. People can use the checklists to learn more about screening tests, preventative medicines, and daily steps they can take to stay healthy.

Rand: The checklists are based on advice from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and are available online at ahrq.gov/consumer. Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I’m Rand Gardner for Healthcare 411.
